Common Questions About Quotes

How accurate is my virtual quote?

Our virtual quote is designed to give you a realistic ballpark based on the information you provide. Most of the cost of a painting project comes from measurable things like the size of the project, what we’re painting, and the amount of labor involved.

What we can’t see through a calculator is surface condition, unusual repairs, access issues, and other details that may affect prep. That’s why this is a ballpark rather than a final proposal.

Why can painting quotes be so different?

If two contractors look at the same project and their prices are thousands of dollars apart, that doesn’t necessarily mean one is overpriced. It usually means they’re making different assumptions about materials, labor, preparation, or the level of service included.

If our quote is substantially different from another, one of us probably needs to ask better questions. You should understand what you’re buying before deciding which proposal represents the best value.

What actually determines the price of a painting project?

Most projects come down to three basic things:

  • Materials: the products selected and how they’re expected to perform.
  • Labor: the amount of work involved and the employment, insurance, and compensation structure behind the people doing it.
  • Business structure: the systems and overhead required to estimate, schedule, manage, warranty, and stand behind the project.

Different contractors make different decisions in each of these areas—and those decisions show up in both the price and the experience you receive.

Why does professional painting cost more than hiring someone on the side?

There are many good painters working under different business models, and the least expensive option may be completely appropriate for some projects. A professional painting company simply provides a different experience than an individual painter with very little overhead.

At ABE Paint Team, you’re paying for insured W-2 employees, project management, detailed work orders, professional equipment, daily documentation, quality control, warranty support, and the infrastructure required to consistently deliver the experience we’ve promised.

Are your painters employees or subcontractors?

The majority of our painting is performed by insured, drug-tested, uniformed W-2 employees. We do partner with qualified, insured specialty contractors for certain carpentry, drywall, and related services when appropriate.

We’ve chosen this structure because we believe steady employment, accountability, training, and investing in our people creates a better experience for both our employees and our customers.

What kind of paint do you use?

We’re not bound to one paint manufacturer. Coating technology changes constantly, and we’re always learning from manufacturers, suppliers, our crews, and long-term performance we see in the field.

Our job is to select the right product for the application. A front door, kitchen cabinets, an exterior wall, and a hospital room don’t necessarily need the same coating—even if one brand makes products for all four.

Are materials included?

Yes. We include the materials required for the painting work in our quotes because homeowners shouldn’t have to navigate professional paint products, contractor pricing, quantities, and changing coating technology themselves.

You’re buying the finished result and the longevity of the surfaces we’re painting—not a stack of paint cans. We take responsibility for selecting and supplying the materials needed to produce that result.

Will my final invoice be higher than my quote?

Our goal with a fixed-price quote is simple: the price on the quote should be the price on the invoice.

If you add work or we discover something genuinely unforeseen that changes the scope, we’ll discuss it with you rather than surprise you at the end. The final invoice shouldn’t be an opportunity to rethink a price we’ve already agreed on.

If you can estimate online, why would you need to visit my house?

The visit isn’t about looking around your house and deciding what we think you should pay. It’s about replacing assumptions with good information.

We verify measurements, inspect surfaces, identify repairs or prep needs, discuss colors and goals, and make sure we understand what you’re asking us to accomplish. The virtual quote establishes a realistic budget; the consultation turns that into a firm proposal.

What am I really paying for when I hire ABE Paint Team?

You’re paying for paint and the people applying it, but you’re also paying for the system surrounding them—estimating, scheduling, communication, insurance, equipment, project management, documentation, quality control, warranty support, and continued investment in our people.

We’re trying to build a better version of ABE Paint Team every year, and when you hire us, my hope is that you experience the benefit of those investments.

What if ABE Paint Team is outside my budget?

That’s okay. We’re under no illusion that we’re the least expensive way to get your house painted, and there are situations where a lower-overhead contractor may be a perfectly good fit.

One reason we created this virtual quote is to give you that information early. It’s better to set realistic expectations before either of us invests time in an appointment. If the numbers make sense and the experience matters to you, then we have a good reason to continue the conversation.
